Miller Family Christmas Blog--MFCB 2017
Your Miller
Family Christmas Blogger Jack Strap is back to report on The Millers 2017
comings and goings. Note that Jack is
aware of the Most Annoying Words for 2017 and will try not to use them unless
it’s in the context of someone he’s trying to annoy of course. These Words are:
1. Whatever
2. Fake News
3. No Offense, But
4. Literally
5. You Know What I Mean?
Your
Athletic Supporter, Jack Strap is a mostly retired “sports and entertainment
journalist” who has written about Hills Hoops Inc (HHI), the TCFL, and events
like the 3P (Poletti Pool Party) & Penn State Road Trips (until they
decreed “What Happens in Happy Valley, Stays in Happy Valley”). His only remaining contractual obligation is
to be the MFCB’s Scribe for as long as the Harry Wong Christmas Newsletter
(HWCN) is in existence, so having recently received the HWCN 2017 via “snail
mail” and I’m not positive but it could have been done on a typewriter—the Good
News is you get the high tech MFCB electronically delivered to the warmth of
your home complete with hyper-links transporting you around the World Wide Web.
As for
Harry’s newsletter—No Offense, But the only reason people don’t “Return To Sender” (click on the hyper-link which will open in a new window and after singing along--you can go back to the MFCB Tab) is because his Wife Kathy is really cool. Literally--You Know What I Mean? And I’m not saying there’s Fake News in there
(although Trump might have Tweeted that), but Whatever.
In Sickness and in Health
After a largely Healthy 2017--Glenn and Karen
have been battling a bug (Andrew had it for a bit, but his young immune system
eradicated it) the past weeks, but it makes them feel better and you could too
by singing along at this hyper-link with the Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu
Glenn
has also started going to a Chiropractor who turns out to be a big Led Zeppelin
Fan and by coincidence was at same Get The Led Out (GTLO) tribute band concert
at the Whitaker Center as the Miller Family.
Although we would highly recommend you seeing GTLO—the MFCB is going to
give you this Led Zeppelin Original
One Good Thing About Music, When It
Hits You, You Feel No Pain
That’s a quote from Bob Marley and it’s a good segue
from the last section to this one. First
off Britty and Andrew regularly receive positive feedback for their singing
at Church, and Glenn has always given himself high marks for his singing in the
shower. More formally Brittany sings for
the Music For Everyone (MFE) Lancaster Community Chorus
Also
the Miller Family really enjoyed the Sounds of Summer Concerts at
Springettsbury Park and
also a few more locally at Cousler Park.
In addition we saw a Classic Rock Show in Hershey, a Recycled Percussion
Show at Penn State York, and our Nephew Garrett perform with the Spring Ford
Marching Band as they played B&A’s former school Wilson in football. Garrett also has performed for the World Champion Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps. Speaking
of World Records—Glenn and Karen played Cowbells before a York Revolution
game with a multitude of others as they sought the World Record for “More
Cowbell” and you can’t say “More Cowbell” without watching this Classic SNL Skit
Jackie Robinson Said
“Life is not
a spectator sport” which we get, but the Millers spectated at a lot of sports in
2017. Penn State football games included
wins vs. Akron with Glenn, Karen, her Brother Doug, and their Niece Juliana
which included a post-game visit to Meyer Dairy Farm enjoying ice cream as good
as the Creamery, vs. Pitt with Reitzy which also included a Great Tailgate, and
at Maryland with Glenn, Karen, and Britty on an unexpectedly very nice November day. Also a wide variety of basketball games
highlighted by Villanova Win at Madison Square Garden with a Train Trip from
Lancaster, as well as Penn State, West York HS, York College, and exciting
Spring Grove HS games watching the rare York County Division I prospect Eli
Brooks. Andrew and Glenn also saw an
entertaining Ring of Honor TV taping in Baltimore.
Meals and Entertainment
In 2017 The
Miller Family found a couple of new favorite restaurants. One was the Hillside Café on Rt. 83 which has
really good steaks—cool to still find a new place in York County even after
living there for over 6 years. The other
was the Pressroom Restaurant in Lancaster as introduced to us by the Mandros’
for a nice outside dinner and then later we dined there with the Reitzys. Another hearty and hospitable meal was
Thanksgiving at the Glazier’s Farm which is the home of Brittany’s boyfriend
James’ parents.
On the
Entertainment side there was Sight and Sound’s “Jonah” for Glenn’s Birthday
and for Britty’s Birthday—a captivating Cirque du Soleil show in
Baltimore. They also saw the Clydesdale's
when they visited York and Glenn got to ride some roller coasters at the Co.
Picnic at Knoebels.
Also Entertaining
Are the
Miller’s Pets. There’s “El Bell” Ellie
whose been with us for the longest and specializes in finding new and innovative places to nap that make you smile.
Our lap dog Bradley has a myriad of nicknames and is a source of laughter
and comfort. He loves going for rides in
the car which sometimes end with walks inside Lowe's (safer than a neighborhood
filled with unleashed dogs). Also
Bradley had some adversity needing (5) teeth removed after which he’s eating
better and back chewing on bones. Our
newest addition Cassie is a beautiful Golden who had her one year “gotcha day”
anniversary with them recently.
Cassie’s favorite walking place is a nearby by car Park which is now
known as Cassie Park. Also Glenn taught
Cassie a unique trick—how to smile.
Work
Karen’s Ruby Heart Crafts business is
thriving and it’s clear she really enjoys her hard work even if a few Customers
drive her crazy. Brittany changed her 2nd
job and is now working some evenings/weekends at Iron Hill which is a very
successful Lancaster restaurant leading to good tips. Glenn started a new job in April as CFO at
Cumberland Truck Equipment which is a pretty good fit. It’s a longer commute (45-50 minutes), but
often uses the time to talk to and hopefully help fellow CPENG Members. Glenn is on the Board of this non-profit organization and in November he became the Chapter Leader for CPENG's newest location for evening monthly meetings at PSU Harrisburg.
Traditions and a New Thing
A couple of
Glenn’s Traditions didn’t happen this year—he didn’t go on the PSU Weekend Road
Trip as the planned Pitt game fell through due to others’
indecision/unresponsiveness nor was there a 3P this year. Glenn also recently announced that he’s
taking a hiatus from the TCFL fantasy football league for which he was a
Founding Father way back in 1988. Glenn’s New Thing was joining the Penn State Alumni Association--York County Chapter where he made new friends in a fun bunch holding monthly
happy hours, Game watches at Primanti Brothers, and a Christmas Party. In addition some nice family Traditions
continue like Britty and Andrew’s Easter Egg Hunt (Karen and Glenn hide the
eggs) and B and A flying kites on Vacation.
Last But Not Least—Vacations
And this
year the aforementioned kite flying was back at the Outer Banks which is one of
the Miller Family's Favorite vacation spots.
As always the house they rented was very nice and they did a couple new
things this trip—the N.C. Aquarium on Roanoke Island and hiking through the
sand dunes at Jockey’s Ridge State Park.
Brittany and Andrew also continued their relatively new tradition of
Disney Cruising together on “their own dime” as the “Adventure Siblings”. On the downside, a Glenn/Karen/Britty
mini-vacation to Orlando was deferred once due to FL Hurricanes and then again
when the plane out of Harrisburg Airport had problems causing a very long delay
and a decision to just take a credit—will try again on that one in 2018.
We hope you enjoyed the Miller Family Christmas Blog--MFCB 2017 and now to the pictures in the order the computer decided to download them:
