THANKFUL

2012 Miller Family Christmas Blog (MFCB)
Your MFCB Supporter Jack Strap doesn't appear to be here this Christmas Eve Day to write a humor-filled story, so guess I (Glenn Miller) am on my own this year.  I read all of our past year's stories to try to inspire myself, but I'm just not feeling itThere have been things that have happened over the past year that are really distressing me at this moment.  Some closer to home than others.  For example I look around this room I'm sitting in for some Christmas inspiration and I see a precious picture of Karen's Kindergarteners and I think of the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook & think Why? Why?  I guess there are just questions I can't answer, things I can't control despite my efforts, etc.

As I reflect here now I know there's a lot of people trying to deal with a lot worse stuff than I am, so my sincere thoughts & prayers go out to them.  I also look further around this room I'm in at the stuff on the walls, shelves, etc. that are making me realize I have to snap out of it because I have so much for which to be THANKFUL.  So maybe this will be more Thanksgiving than Christmas, but I'm actually typing now, so I'll go with it.

First & foremost I'm THANKFUL for my Family.  I didn't have a family situation like this when I grew up.  When I really think about all that my Wife Karen puts into this family/household, it's truly amazing. Yet I many times forget or take for granted how lucky in Love I am.  Also lucky in parenting--our Kids Brittany "Britty" & Andrew have both shown an ability to make good life decisions, work hard inside school & out, spend time doing things they enjoy, and still sometimes wanting to do things with their parents (one of which this year was seeing PSU Coach BOB win his 1st game vs. the Naval Academy) for which I'm THANKFUL.

Over the years we have also been blessed with "kids" of the 4-legged variety.  May Mindy & Comet RIP, but they THANKFULLY blazed the trail for a household that now includes as many animals (i.e. 4 = 2 dogs + 2 cats) as humans.  There's "Baby" Lola, "Big Furry" Chandler, "Little Skinny" Ellie, and our latest "cray-cray" (as Britty would say) addition: Bradley who is an estimated 3 years old & came to us from a Maryland Rescue (found on the streets of Baltimore)--we've nicknamed him "Bean" and "Worm" with several variations.

I'm THANKFUL for my long-time friends and all the things we do together.  For example, there were nine (9) of us on our annual PSU Road Trip including two we re-connected with this year: Tom "T-Pott" Potteiger & Nick "Pogo for Joe" Merolli which was cool-cool-cool (ref TV show Community).  In addition, Brother Craiger & I (also saw Mighty Kerr & his boys there) attended the emotional PSU Seniors Day victory over Wisconsin which included a number of firsts for us despite attending games since the late 70's (i.e. seeing team buses arrive, PSU Sports Museum, BJC Tail-Great, and post-game @ Kildare's Irish Pub).

With Friends there's also THANKFULNESS for the TCFL Fantasy Football League, the often imitated but never duplicated 3P (Poletti Pool Party), Relay for Life, and this year was the 20th Anniversary of Hills Hoops Inc. (HHI).  Combining the latter two (2) on New Years Eve Day this year: we're having a LIPPER Memorial HHI "Old Timers" Extravaganza.

I'm also THANKFUL to have a good job with a good company working with good people which not always, but at times can be exciting/fun.  I'm also THANKFUL that Hayshire Elementary has expanded Karen's role to include some of which she so much enjoyed at Wilson in helping the little ones learn Words.

In addition THANKFUL that those jobs allowed us a 2012 Vacation renting a nice house on Fripp Island, South Carolina which is halfway between Charleston SC & Savannah GA to which we took side trips.  The primary mode of Fripp Island transportation is golf carts which was one of the selling points for daughter Britty.  Britty & Andrew also "adultly" took their own vacation together to Walt Disney World with Karen & I joining them for the last few days.

I could go on, but I'm THANKFUL I feel much better now as this turned out to be therapeutic & apologize for the "bummer" start but I was just being honest.

So all that's left is for the MFCB to Wish You a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!!  Also will ask my Wonderful Wife to add some pictures below:
